ANKARA: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said his country was moving towards allowing trade with Russia, China and Iran to be conducted in local currencies, as he continues his efforts to strengthen the falling lira.
“If we buy something from them, we will use their money, if they buy something from us, they will use our currency,” he said, ahead of a trip by Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim to Russia for meetings on Tuesday.
Erdogan — who previously said discussions were underway with Moscow, Beijing and Tehran on the issue — added that instructions related to this proposal had been given to the central bank.
Erdogan repeated a call for Turks to convert the euros, dollars and other foreign currency “under their pillows” into Turkish lira during a speech in the central city of Kayseri.
“Our Turkish lira is blessed,” he told a cheering, flag-waving crowd after opening a museum in the city named after his predecessor and long-time friend Abdullah Gul.
Ankara hopes such demands will help the lira win back the losses it has suffered over the past few months since a failed coup in July when a rogue military faction tried to oust Erdogan from power.
In November alone, the lira haemorrhaged more than 10 percent while it continues to reach record lows against a stronger US dollar.
The lira reached a record low of 3.58 to the dollar before making up some of the loss.

انہوں نے جو فیصلہ کیا ہے ویسا قدم ستر کی دہائی میں سعودی عرب کے شاہ فیصل نے دھمکی کے طور پر اٹھایا تھا۔ترکی چین، ایران اور روس سے تجارت صرف مقامی کرنسی میں کرے گا۔اگرر وس ترکی سے کچھ خریدے گا تو ترکی کرنسی لیرا میں اس کی ادائیگی کرے گا یا ۔ ایران اور بھارت مقامی کرنسی میں تجارت کرنے کی طرف قدم بڑھا رہے ہیں۔ چین اور پاکستان بھی مقامی کرنسی میں تجارت کرنے کی منصوبہ بندی کر رہے ہیں۔ ڈالر کی عالمی کرنسی کے طور پر مضبوطی کے پیچھےپیٹرو ڈالر کا ہاتھ تھا۔چین، روس، ترکی، بھارت اور ایران جیسے ممالک کے ڈالر سے ہاتھ کھینچنے کی تقلید کئی دوسرے ممالک کر سکتے ہیں۔ پاکستان کو بھی آگے بڑھ کر چین، ایران، افغانستان، روس اور ترکی سے مقامی کرنسی میں تجارت کرکے اپنی معیشت کو ترقی دینی چاہئے تاکہ ڈالر پر انحصار کم ہو سکے۔اس کے نتیجے میں ڈالر کےمقابلے میں روپے کی قدر بڑھ جائے گی۔اگر ڈالر کے مقابلے میں روپے کی قدر میں ایک روپے کا اضافہ ہوتا ہے تو ہمارے قرض میں 80ارب روپے کی کمی ہوگی۔ یہ دوراندیشی ترکی کے اردگان، روس کے پیوٹن یا چین کی مضبوط قیادت کا کمال ہے۔
سوال:کیا ہماری قیادت میں اتنا دم ہے کہ وہ معیشت کی پانسہ پلٹنے کے لئے اس طرح کے فیصلے کر سکیں؟یا ہمارے حکمرانوں کو نمائشی منصوبوں سے آگے کچھ نہیں سوجھتا۔ یا وہ کبھی ختم نہ ہونے والے پانامہ لیکس اور دوسرے لیکس میں الجھے رہیں گے۔
